FAQ

Common questions.

This happens when Chrome is set as your default browser on iPhone. iOS sends all URL opens — including NFC tags — to your default browser, so if that's Chrome, the app on your home screen gets bypassed entirely.

The fix takes about 5 seconds: go to iPhone Settings → Chrome → Default Browser App → tap Safari. After that, tapping the NFC tag will open Safari, which recognises the installed Laundry Buddy app and launches it directly.

Apple only allows push notifications for web apps that are installed to the home screen from Safari. This is an Apple policy, not something we control. Chrome on iPhone cannot send push notifications for web apps.

The good news is once it's installed from Safari, it works exactly like a regular app — you'll have an icon on your home screen and full notification support.

It uses a timer you set when you start the cycle. It doesn't connect to your appliances directly. You choose a duration based on your cycle length, and the app notifies you when that time is up.

Most people learn their machine's typical cycle times quickly. The saved presets feature lets you save your most-used durations so you can start a cycle in one tap.

No. Each device generates a unique household ID the first time the app is opened. The NFC tag URL just opens the app — it's your household ID (stored on your device) that keeps your data completely separate from everyone else's.

Think of it like how two people can both use the same bank website but see completely different accounts.

Open the app, tap the gear icon (⚙) in the top right, then tap "Share Household." You'll get a 6-character code that expires in 10 minutes. Your household member opens the app on their phone, taps "Join Household," and enters the code. From then on, both phones receive notifications for any timer either of you starts.

Check these things in order: (1) Make sure Focus / Do Not Disturb is off on your phone. (2) Go to Settings → Notifications → Laundry Buddy and confirm notifications are enabled with Lock Screen checked. (3) Make sure you installed the app from Safari using Add to Home Screen — not just bookmarked it. (4) Make sure you're opening the app from the home screen icon, not from Safari.

If none of those help, delete the app from your home screen, re-open the URL in Safari, and re-install using Add to Home Screen.

Yes — you can open laundrybuddy.app in your browser and use the timer directly. The NFC tag just makes it faster and more automatic. The whole point of the physical product is removing friction, so the app works without it, but you'll get the most value with the tag installed.
